Steel Fall to Aberdeen Wings in Weekend Road Series

CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI- The Chippewa Steel traveled to Aberdeen, South Dakota this weekend for their second and final season matchup with the Aberdeen Wings. The Steel were looking to gain momentum during their six-game road trip during November before they return home following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Friday night’s game started quickly with a streak of four unanswered goals by the Wings as they came out hot. Steel assistant captains Connor Szmul and Jacob Dirks answered in the second period with a goal apiece cutting the Wing’s lead down to 3. Despite another third period effort by John Druskinis to make it a two-goal game, the Wings prevailed 6-3.

Saturday night was a physical matchup from the start. Both teams saw a lot of power play action and Steel forward Jaden Grant was able to capitalize on a power play goal in the second period. Despite facing 12 minutes shorthanded, Steel goaltender Trent Burnham held the Wings to 3 goals in 39 shots. An empty-net goal ended the night and the Steel came up short with a final score of 4-1.
