Steel Complete Weekend Sweep of Janesville

(Chippewa Falls, WI)- The Chippewa Steel completed a weekend sweep of the Janesville Jets on Saturday night in front of capacity crowd.

After a scoreless first period, the Jets got the board first with a goal from Leo Bacallo. Chippewa responded with a goal from Spencer Oyler assisted by Michael Black and Isaac Moberg. Janesville countered just four minutes later with a goal from Xavier LaPointe.

Entering the third period down 2-1 Connor Szmul took over, scoring a pair of goals that were both assisted by Killian Kiecker-Olson. The Jets fought back and tied the game with a goal by Parker Lindauer.  With just over 3 minutes left in the game Killian Kiecker-Olson put the Steel in front for good with a goal assisted by Jacob Dirks. Grisha Gotovets followed up with an empty-net goal to seal the 5-3 victory in front of a jammed packed Opening Night crowd.

In goal for Chippewa was Grant Boldt who saved 26 of 29 shots on the evening.

Chippewa returns to action on Wednesday night in the first of four games at the NAHL Showcase event in Blaine, MN. The Steel open with a 7:30 p.m. match-up against the Shreveport Mudbugs of the South Division.

The Steel will return to Chippewa Area Ice Arena on Friday, October 4th at 7:10 for a Foam Puck Giveaway presented by Kwik Trip.  Individual Adult Tickets are just $10 for adults, Ages 5-18 $6 and under 4 is free.
