Steel Embark on Alaska Road Trip

After a well-deserved break the Steel are on a 10-day trip to Alaska to face the Kenai River Brown Bears and Fairbanks Ice Dogs. First up, the Steel will take on the Kenai River Brown Bears for their first game action of 2019 with a weekend series.

Before heading into the winter break the Steel split a competitive series with the 3rdplace Fairbanks Ice Dogs at home. The last time the Steel faced the Brown Bears they swept them in exciting series featuring a shootout game- winner by Killian Kiecker-Olson and masterful performance between the pipes by Goalie Josh Langford. Camden Thiesing leads the Steel with 21 points, 8 goals, and 12 assists. Jacob Dirks follows with 17 points, 8 goals, and 9 assists.

The Brown Bears currently hold the 5thspot in the Midwest Division. The last action for the Brown Bears before their winter break was a series split with the 2ndranked Janesville Jets. Their top skaters are forward Zach Kranjnik with 24 points and defenseman Markuss Komuls with 21 points.

The Chippewa Steel are members of the NAHL which is the oldest and largest junior hockey league of its kind in the United States and one of only two USA Hockey-certified leagues that operate under the non pay-to-play model.  The NAHL is also one of the best at advancing players to NCAA and professional hockey.
